Volunteering

Join us as a volunteer and learn all about horses and the farm life.

This is the perfect opportunity to escape from your city or town. With us, you will experience what it’s like to work with horses and immerse yourself in nature. Farm life is no joke, but it’s also incredibly enjoyable. You’ll acquire numerous new skills, including managing an equine farm, working with horses, and mastering trail riding. We practice natural horsemanship, and you’ll gain valuable insights into this approach. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to learn about the business side of things, working up close with the company’s CEO.

Details

What will you learn?

You will learn how to work with and train horses, including saddling, bridling, grooming, and bathing. You will also gain experience in administering monthly injections to the horses. Exposure to a few young and wild horses will provide you with the necessary experience. Training as a trail guide will be part of your learning, allowing you to lead people on trails. Additionally, you will learn natural horsemanship techniques, understanding how to handle horses safely in various environments. We prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary risks that could endanger anyone's life. Working closely with the CEO of the company, you will also acquire valuable skills and tips, setting you on the path to starting your own business.

What work will you be doing with the horses and around the farm?

You will spend a significant amount of time walking in the fields, searching for horses and catching them to prepare for the day's work. Occasionally, you will also be required to feed the horses and clean both the tack room and the feed room (lucky for you there are no stables that need cleaning). If necessary, you may also be asked to assist in cleaning the tack. Your responsibilities will include helping to relocate horses from one farmland to another and participating in the training, working, and administering monthly injections for the horses.

Fun Stuff!

At the end of a hard days work we take the horse into the river and have a swim with them. We also go looking for nice gallop areas and race one another.

Location and Transport?

We are situated just outside of Parys, with a convenient 15-minute drive from Parys to Pasio Life: Koedoeslaagte Horseback. The area is secure and under constant monitoring. Transportation can be organized to pick up volunteers from a nearby town. We frequently drive into town for necessary shopping, so if transportation is required, it can be arranged. Additionally, we can also facilitate transport to other locations as needed.

Signal and Wifi?

There is a signal at the accommodation and in certain parts of the mountain. We also provide WiFi for all volunteers.

Other facilities?

We have operational showers with warm water, and volunteers will also have access to a fully equipped kitchen featuring a fridge, stove, and microwave. Our farm includes a pool, and we are situated alongside the Vaal River, so don't forget to bring your swimsuits. There is plenty to enjoy during our downtime.

Food and Accommodation?

Our volunteers will mainly be staying inside the farmhouse, but in certain circumstance we do have cabins available if our volunteers. We will personally arrange a meeting plan with our volunteers to discuss their requirements.

Need to Know!

We provide a safe environment with well-trained horses. We do not place anyone in a situation they cannot handle. If you are still learning about horses, we will build you up until you feel comfortable and confident in your handling and riding abilities.
